Our ambassadors embrace the Amsterdam City Swim and the Dutch ALS Foundation. In the build-up to the event, they are very important to the organization as well.
Our triple Olympic champion is one of the most successful Dutch athletes. Like many athletes Pieter began at an early age with his sport. Already in his youth he excelled by breaking Dutch records on the line in his age category. A beautiful sports career lay ahead. Pieter is our main ambassador of the Amsterdam City Swim from the first edition.
@VeryFerryFast is the best Dutch open water swimmer and European champion in the 10km individual and 5km Team Event. He is in full preparation for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 . Ferry on the Amsterdam City Swim “I am an ambassador of Amsterdam City Swim, because I think it is important that further investigation should be done to ALS . I also want to show how beautiful and pleasant swimming in the open water in the Netherlands is. “
From the first edition of the Amsterdam City Swim Beau van Erven Thorns participated. And also at the New Amsterdam City Swim in New York on June 21 2015 Beau jumped with us into the deep for ALS. Time for the next step! Beau officially joined as an ambassador of Amsterdam City Swim and thus helps us to gain more attention for ALS! Beau works as a television presenter at RTL and is known as a writer, actor and, inter alia, various television programs.
Mari Carmen Oudendijk is mostly known for her work for different sport programs about bog events like Wimbledon, Olympic Games and sport news. After working at RTL for eight years, she is now self-employed for companies such as RTV-NH and RTV Utrecht. Since the first edition of the Amsterdam City Swim she has been involved as a participant. She supports the event and is co-founder of the idea of the Amsterdam Late Night City Swim! Mari Carmen supports the ACS by
for example recruiting participants.
Michael Mols is a former Dutch Football player who has played for clubs like FC Utrecht, Glasgow Rangers and Feyenoord. Mols became top scorer when he played with FC Utrecht. In three seasons Mols scored 49 goals in 94 games. Mols enjoys the popularity and the fans even selected him as FC Utrecht ‘legend’. In 2007 Feyenoord announced that Mols was going to play for their team. He also played six international games. Nowadays Michael trains the strikers of the FC Utrecht below 19 team.
Since July Michael is committed to the Amsterdam City Swim. His old-colleague Fernando Ricksen is suffering of ALS and Mols sees what this terrible disease can do to a person. This way Michael creates more attention and awareness of the disease to raise more money to find a medicine or treatment as soon as possible.
Edith van Dijk is the most successful long – distance swimmer of all time and one of the most honored swimmers at FINA events. With six individual world titles she stands in the row Grant Hackett ( 7) , Ian Thorpe (6 ) and Michael Phelps (6). Also Edith van Dijk is since the first edition of the Amsterdam City Swim ambassador.
