UPDATE: I finished the swim in 33:03 placing 34th overall out of 2029 competitors. Buzzing with the result and to have hit the fundraising target too - thanks so much to everyone who supported me and Tom, it means a lot! Medal photos attached as promised 🏅🏅
On Sunday 3rd September (i.e. this weekend!), I will be braving Amsterdam's canals aiming to raise money to help fund research into treatments for ALS.
2023's Amsterdam City Swim will see over 3000 swimmers take on a 2.1km course through the capital's winding waterways.
My wave sets off at 1:15pm local time and I'm hoping to finish the race in under ~45mins. It's an ambitious target after a long summer break - a few shots of my intermittent Indochinese swim training are attached - but an achievable one if things runs smoothly!
Most excitingly of all, I've managed to rope Tom Bradley the king into taking part too. Starting at 2pm, Tom is braving the same course after a decade with practically no swimming. I'll be cheering him on and promise to get a joint pic of us at the finish line - no matter what state we're in - and to then post it here!!
Thanks so much to everyone who supported my Slateman fundraiser for Suicide-Prevention UK in June, and to everyone who is supporting me now. I was blown away by the generosity and really appreciate it. Like last time, all money raised goes directly towards a brilliant cause, and your messages give me that added energy boost when the going gets tough in the water. So thank you!!!
Will ❤️
