History

In 2011, 14 friends started a fundraising campaign for ALS, the deadly nerve-muscle disease, in support of their friend Weert-Jan Weerts. Inspired by the many positive encouragements and donations, they decided to take their action further. Since then, the Amsterdam City Swim has become an annual event with thousands of participants.

The aim of the Amsterdam City Swim is to raise as much money as possible for scientific research into the deadly ALS disease and to improve the quality of life of ALS patients. In recent years, more than 13 million euros has been raised for ALS research. As long as there is no cure for ALS, we will continue to raise money to fund research.
