Swimming in the canals of Amsterdam sounds like a challenge! At the Amsterdam City Swim, we want everyone to dive into the water with peace of mind. But what about the water quality? Is it really safe to swim?

We understand that this is a question many participants have. That’s why our community partner, Waterschap Amstel, Gooi en Vecht / Waternet, has created an informative video featuring water system manager Maarten Ouboter. In this video, he explains exactly how they ensure the water is clean and how they continuously monitor it. From bacterial control to ongoing water measurements—everything is covered in this video (Dutch spoken):

Take a few minutes to watch the video and see for yourself how well the water is monitored:

And... we can already reveal that—despite what some people might say—you definitely won’t be swimming among poop or any floating waste during the ACS!

That’s a relief! We hope that with this reassuring knowledge, you’ll approach the start of the Amsterdam City Swim with even more enthusiasm. Together, we’ll not only swim for a good cause but also in water where you can feel safe. So, suit up and let’s make it a fantastic day!
